Hot Shoeing

Hot shoeing allows us to fit the shoe to the horse. A shoe should be fitted to the hoof, not the hoof to the shoe.  The shoe is heated in a forge and can be more precisely shaped to fit the individual needs of the horse's hoof.

The shoe is "hot seated" just briefly on the foot surface, to reveal any unlevel spots and insure a tight fit between the bottom of the shoe and the foot surface. Hot seating cauterizes the tubules at the end of the hoof wall. This kills bacteria and seals in moisture of healthy growth. There are no nerve endings where the shoe is placed so it will not hurt the horse or cause him pain.

The shoe is then cooled and nailed on. The hot shoeing process does take longer but, we understand and believe in the benefits of both superior shoe fit and increased hoof health gained by hot fitting and hot seating your horse’s shoes

If your horses has never been hot shod and you would like to discuss the possibility or have any questions, please contact us.
